The American Swedish Institute, founded in 1929, serves as a gathering place for people to share stories and experiences around universal themes of tradition, migration, craft and the arts, all informed by enduring ties to Sweden.
One of the Most Unique Spaces in the Twin Cities
Where turrets and stained glass windows stand in contrast to contemporary walls of glass, where porcelain stoves exist alongside geothermal technology; where elegant and traditional early 20th century architecture meets contemporary, Nordic-inspired design – we welcome you to the American Swedish Institute – a distinct and memorable setting for your corporate or private event. Just ten minutes south of downtown Minneapolis, the American Swedish Institute’s convenient location makes it easily accessible from anywhere in the Twin Cities or the surrounding area.
The Turnblad Mansion
This 30-room castle on Park Avenue, completed in 1908, was home to Swan J. Turnblad and his family. Turnblad, who made his fortune by publishing a Swedish-language newspaper, gifted his home to the public in 1929. His legacy, now a museum and event center, is enjoyed by all who visit the Turnblad Mansion.
