ASI Video Projects Share Stories

Aug. 29, 2012

The American Swedish Institute has begun using more short videos as an engaging and accessible method to share stories and experiences with our members and the public. ASI recently received special funding to produce videos about its programs and celebrations during this landmark year. All videos can be viewed on ASI’s YouTube channel.

One of the newest videos is about our Story Swap program, a documentary that tells the story of how ASI elders are sharing their families’ immigrant experiences with students from Wellstone International High School in Minneapolis—and in turn the Wellstone students share their experiences with the elders. All Wellstone students are recent immigrants between the ages of 16 and 21.

In addition to the Story Swap video, we have a short piece commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Swedish humanitarian Raoul Wallenberg and his work to rescue tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews during World War II.

And, not to be missed are three videos from the Grand Opening—one is a sampler of the day’s activities, one features the afternoon’s speakers, and the third is from the concert by Yggdrasil and Eivør Duo. The Grand Opening sampler is currently available; the other two will be posted soon. Another set of six videos documents a Year of Slöjd featuring handcraft artists who work in wire, birch bark, glass, ceramics, felted wool, and wheat, teaching classes for adults and youth at ASI. Happy viewing!
