A Nordic Christmas

Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 to Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013

The Nordic Christmas rooms have become a holiday destination for many visitors. Five galleries on the first and second floors of the Turnblad Mansion are decorated for the holidays, representing the traditions of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. This year’s theme is “A Royal Christmas” and each Christmas Room highlights its country’s royalty or head of state in photos and text.

Special guest Kerstin Hagsgård , Curator from the Royal Palace collections, Stockholm, assisted with the design and installation of the Swedish Christmas table this year. Hagsgård spent four days at ASI working with ASI curator Curt Pederson and staff on the display. The Swedish Room also features an exhibit about the tradition of decorative napkin folding. This unique craft uses large size pressed linen napkins, carefully and intricately folded, to create dramatic and exquisite shapes and forms.
