Archives

The Archives are comprised of documents and materials related to Swedish and Swedish American people and organizations. These materials include unpublished manuscripts, photographs, diaries, letters, audio and video recordings, and much more. Researchers who use ASI's archival material, should know that the materials are often fragile and require special care and attention. An index of archival collections is available in the Library and Archives Reading Room.

The Archives include materials related to:

  • The Turnblad family, the Mansion and the Svenska Amerikanska Posten
  • American Swedish Institute history
  • Swedish-American life, with priority given to materials about the immigrant experience in Minnesota.
  • Swedish-American artists, musicians and craftspeople especially those who reflect ASI's material culture collection and related programs and exhibits
  • Swedish royal visits and materials related to Minnesota visits
  • ASI clubs and organizations
