Liquid Music & ASI Present: Iceland's Bedroom Community & Friends

Tuesday, May 9, 2017 - 6:00pm to 10:30pm

Iceland's Bedroom Community and Friends music collective is featured in a one-of-a-kind outdoor performance on the Turnblad Mansion's grounds, presented by ASI and SPCO's Liquid Music

Named one of the top "37 things we're looking forward to in the Twin Cities arts scene in 2017" - Star Tribune

Featuring Valgeir Sigurðsson, Jodie Landau, Sam Amidon and Daníel Bjarnason with special guests Channy Leaneagh and SPCO Artistic Partner, Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto

Bedroom Community, “a creative hub of sonic geniuses that continues to evolve and produce incredible work” (BlackBook Magazine) operates out of Iceland as a collective and record label dedicated to the musical innovations of a close-knit group of composers and performers including Daníel Bjarnason, Sam Amidon, and Valgeir Sigurðsson.

Celebrated as “a lightning rod at the juncture where the ambition of classical music meets the aesthetics of indie music” (Pitchfork), the collective teams up with Liquid Music, Finnish violinist and SPCO Artistic Partner Pekka Kuusisto, Poliça's Channy Leaneagh and the American Swedish Institute for a magical performance on the grounds of the beautiful and historic Turnblad Mansion.

Plan Your Evening

  • 6:00 p.m.: Doors open. Explore the Turnblad Mansion and The Weather Diaries, a stunning art exhibition exploring fashion and identity from Greenland, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands. Sip curated cocktails and enjoy festival bites from the award-winning FIKA Cafe
  • 7:30 p.m.: Music begins in the outdoor courtyard
  • 9:30 p.m.: Guided gallery conversations
  • Ongoing: Visit the Sisu Traveling Sauna, onsite at ASI in celebration of Finland’s centennial

Please note: The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra was recently notified by U.S. Immigration Services that the visa application for Swedish vocalist Mariam Wallentin, who was to be featured among the performers for this performance, was not granted. We are disappointed that Mariam will be unable to participate, but are happy to announce that Poliça’s Channy Leaneagh has agreed to join the performance and we look forward to the unique voice and spirit that she brings to this special collaboration.

Co-presented by the American Swedish Institute and Liquid Music as part of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's Where Words End festival.
