Nordic Table Workshop: Viking Age Food

Have you ever wondered how the Vikings cooked and what they ate?

Here's your chance to learn from an expert about the history, and find out in a real, hands-on way how to prepare a Viking meal. Then you will join your companions in eating the meal that you cooked together!

It's a great opportunity for groups, couples and individuals with an interest in cooking, food and traditions.

Under the tutelage of Daniel Serra, a Swedish archaeologist who works with ancient food and will soon hold a doctorate in Viking cuisine, students will cook a menu from the Viking Age, working from Daniel’s interpretation of the dishes. You'll have the chance to get involved in presentations and discuss the process, practice and ingredients, while preparing the food in a communal atmosphere.

Daniel will also be offering a lecture on Wed. night, to talk about many things that he'll be demonstrating in this Nordic Table workshop. Attend both!

Daniel Serra is passionate about cooking techniques, culinary practices and tastes, from the Viking age to the Renaissance. He is an in-demand instructor at many museums and historical events and an expert on ancient food in practice and in knowledge as a prospective Ph.D in Viking cuisine.  During Daniel’s 2017 visit to Minnesota, he will also take part in the Midwest Viking Festival in Moorehead.
