Readers and Writers Library Residence: Ed Bok Lee

Wednesday, February 19, 2014 -
6:30pm to 8:00pm

Meet author Ed Bok Lee as he shares his work and process as part of Coffee House Press’ Readers and Writers Library Residencies program at ASI.

The evening features a conversation between Bok Lee, Cassie Warholm-Wohlenhaus (ASI’s Librarian and Archivist), Dr. Kjerstin Moody (Assistant Professor in Scandinavian Studies at Gustavus Adolphus College), and Chris Fischbach (Coffee House Press Publisher), as well as selected readings by Bok Lee.

Bok Lee, a Minnesota Book Award/PEN Award winner, will spend a January residency inside ASI’s Wallenberg Library and Archives, researching daily journals and poetry entries from often-overlooked Swedish immigrants.

Bok Lee uses these stories, written in Swedish, as an incubator for new creative works, drawing on their form and typographic appearance. The original poems and letters are never translated into English, offering Bok Lee a creative platform on which to build a ghostly scaffolding of the original.

Co-presented by ASI and Coffee House Press. Presentation sponsored by the US Bank Private Client Reserve and Dorsey & Whitney LLP.

Free. Registration recommended. Call 612-871-4907.
