ASI hopes to welcome in-person visitors again soon, but because of the restrictions posted by the corona virus we will offer a VIRTUAL Midsommar Celebration that you can do from home. Please continue to check back here and watch social media for updates.
Midsommar is a tradition that dates from ancient times as a moment to welcome back warm weather and the growing season. Similar to festivals in today’s Sweden, ASI’s event normally includes making fresh flower head-wreaths, live music, singing Swedish songs and dancing around a greenery decorated Midsommar pole. After raising the midsommarstång (midsummar pole), it becomes the focus many of the day’s activities.
Special thanks to ASI contributing members and donors. Their ongoing contributions help make our programs, exhibitions and community work possible.
Minnesota artist activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund, and a grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation Minnesota.
