Gallery Talk on January 22 from 6-8 p.m.
Exploring then, now and when, this exhibition is a retrospective of the work of Minnesota-based artist Frederick D. Somers.
From his time in Sweden to the woods near his home, Somer's oil and pastel paintings reflect themes from the land and are recognized for their peaceful sensitivity. Somers is a member of the Oil Painters of America and the Pastel Society of America. He was also honored to have been inducted into the Masters Circle of the International Association of Pastel Societies. His oil and pastel landscapes and portraits are included in more than 400 public, private and museum collections in the U.S. and in Europe, and he continues to teach art workshops.
Since leaving college teaching in 1975, Somers has been a full-time artist working from his home studio near Northfield, Minnesota. “The land surrounding my farmhouse in Minnesota has beautiful hardwood forests and spring- fed streams” he says, “I look forward to the dramatic seasonal changes and long shadows this latitude affords.”
