The American Swedish Institute aims to connect globally and engage locally. As the concepts for the 2015 Hagström exhibition developed, Minnesota artist Lisa Rydin Erickson visited ASI and began asking about the guitars coming to Minneapolis from Sweden for the show. Erickson was immediately inspired by their shapes, sound and the company story. Using her preferred medium – an iPad – she began drawing a new series of work inspired by the historic collection of Hagström guitars.
The use of the iPad allows Erickson to take her artist studio wherever she goes – providing moments for her to engage creatively with the moving world around her. Technology makes it relatively easy for Erickson’s drawings to be played back as an animation, unveiling the artist’s creative process recorded in real time. In addition to the Hagstrom inspired series, Erickson’s additional work celebrates Twin Cities’ famed music venues and nature.
