Papier: Bea Szenfeld and Stina Wirsén is an exhibition uniting the spectacular, sculptural paper-fashions of Swedish designer and artist Bea Szenfeld, whose paper couture has been worn by such groundbreakers as Lady Gaga and Björk, with the whimsical and expressive artwork of Stina Wirsén, one Sweden’s best-known illustrators.
In the fertile land between art and fashion, these two artists meet in a mutual love for handcraft and the common material of paper. Together they have created a world expanding artistic concept and where creativity is boundless.
Bea Szenfeld has made international headlines with unique and daring pieces that are both bold and delicate. Some are origami folds, others consist of thousands of combined individual pieces. Born 1972 in Poland, but now living and working in Stockholm, Szenfeld’s craftsmanship underlies her daring design language. Using scissors, tape, staples, needle and thread, she creates works that point both backwards and forward in time. Her garments can be found in art galleries and fashion magazines as well as on Nobel Prize guests, politicians and musicians.
Stina Wirsén is an internationally recognized artist whose work spans a wide range of fields - from fashion drawings, illustrations for Sweden’s daily press, to illustrating and writing children's books. Born 1968 in Sweden, she lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden. Her visual world is simple in its elegance while expressive. Stina Wirsén is also a playwriter and a set and costume designer for the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm.
