This March, a five-meter-tall golden egg will land in ASI’s courtyard. The piece, entitled Solar Egg, is both a sculpture and functional sauna.
Created by the Swedish art duo Bigert & Bergström, this installation both reflects its surroundings and acts as a chamber for the exchange of ideas. Mats Bigert and Lars Bergström created the egg for the Swedish housing developer Riksbyggen to stand as a symbol of new beginnings in Kiruna, a town currently undergoing a physical move to make way for an iron ore mine. In Kiruna, the landscape, mine, town, sky, sun and snow combine into a fragmented image that evokes association of the complexities spanned by the discussion about climate and sustainable community development.
