Language Classes for Adults

Due to the ongoing situation related to COVID-19, ASI language classes will continue to meet virtually. Please see our selection of virtual summer classes below.

Details:

  • We will use the program Zoom for online classes. After you’ve registered, you will receive an email with more detailed information about how to enter the online classroom.
  • Classes will start the week of June 1. Classes run for 9 weeks, 8 weeks or 4 weeks. There are also one-time classes. 
  • Please see individual class descriptions for more information including cost and materials.

Beginning Swedish
Take this class if you are brand new to Swedish! Materials: Rivstart A1+A2 textbok and övningsbok
 
Curious about the Swedish language, but not ready yet to commit to a multi-date class? Try the 2-hour Intro to Swedish virtual workshop on Sunday, June 7.
 
Continuing Beginning Swedish
This class is continuing from virtual spring term. Rivstart A1/A2 textbok and övningsbok are required. Chapter 3.
Continuting beginning to intermediate students might also be interested in the Start Reading Swedish Virtual Class: Svenska hjältinnor on Thursdays beginning June 4. 
 
Intermediate Swedish
This class will be conversation-based, but will also feature reading, writing and listening assignments. Materials will be provided by the instructor. Take this class if you have studied the language between 2-3 years.
 
Advanced Swedish
This class is continuing from virtual spring term. Take this class if you have studied the language for 3+ years (you are in a class that has finished Rivstart B). You are comfortable reading and discussing literature in Swedish.
High intermediate to advanced students might also be interesed in the Skriv! Swedish Writing Virtual Workshop on Tuesdays beginning June 2. 
 
Finnish 1
This class is continuing from virtual spring term. 
Curious about the Finnish language, but not ready yet to commit to a multi-date class? Try the 2-hour Intro to Finnish virtual workshop on Sunday, June 7.
 
 
Finnish Literature
Read the abridged Finnish novel Punainen Kuin Veri by Salla Simukka. Book cost ($30) is included in course fees. Students will be contacted about how to arrange for book pick-up.
