Afternoons at ASI

Held the second Wednesday of each month from 1-2 p.m. in Paulson Hall, ASI’s afternoon series invites artists, experts and other fascinating folk to share their knowledge and insight in fellowship with the community. A new topic is explored in every session. Please join us!

Wednesday, February 12: Kjolvaskor, a story in a bag

  • Local artist Natalie Norman will share the history and beauty of kjolvaskor, the waist bag of Swedish costume. She will talk about her collection of antique waistbags and tell the stories behind them. Natalie has made hundreds of these bags over the past 25 years, taking inspiration from traditional designs and courses in cultural traditional embroidery that she recently took in Sweden on a fellowship from the American Scandinavian Foundation.
