Wednesday, September 12: Film Viewing – A One Way Ticket to America

  • Join us for a film viewing of A One Way Ticket to America. In the decades leading up to 1900, over 1.2 million Swedes – almost one fourth of Sweden’s population – emigrated to the United States. Many were young, healthy and in the prime of their lives, but their reasons for emigration were many, including poverty and religious persecution. This documentary follows 19-year-old Hilma Jonsson who left Kungsör in 1903 to travel to Seattle. The film highlights many of the places where Swedes settled such as New York, Chicago, Rockford, Minnesota and Seattle.

54 minutes, English (some Swedish with English subtitles).
