August Strindberg’s Miss Julie by Theatre Coup d'Etat

Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - 7:30pm

Originally banned in multiple countries, August Strindberg’s classic Miss Julie is an examination of power in all its various modes.  Taking place on Midsummer’s Eve, the audience is thrust into the wild upheaval of the celebration and the "intense summer heat when the blood turns to fire, and when all are in a holiday spirit, full of gladness, and rank is flung aside."* Strindberg fearlessly tackles the forever raging battle of the sexes while also hitting upon class strictures, love, and even lust, in this 90 minute tour-de-force by Sweden’s best-known playwright. Directed by Ivey-Award winner Peter Beard. Staged at the historic Turnblad Mansion Ballroom.  Miss Julie is performed in conjunction with ASI’s exhibit, The Image of Strindberg.
