First Contact Through Each Other’s Eyes: Cree and Norse Stories of Arrival to Turtle Island

Come to ASI for a conversation with Daphie Pooyak Yeoman about the “First Contact” story between Cree and Nordic cultures, moderated by Shane Orthmann Gothi.

Daphie Pooyak is a Nakota-Cree woman from the Sweetgrass First Nation. She is a traditional teacher, gatherer and sharer of First Nation knowledge whose stories are about finding our place in creation as human beings.

Shane Orthmann Gothi is an artist and storyteller from the Daughters and Sons of Yta whose re-telling of the Norse myths emphasize their place in the seasons and the natural world.
