CANCELLED Nordic Craft Workshop: Household Objects from Wire and Pliers with Faith Clover

Saturday, May 25, 2019 - 10:00am to 5:00pm

Join instructor Faith Clover to try your hand at the Luffarslöjd, or Swedish wire craft, and learn its unique history.  Luffarslöjd is an art form first practiced in the Swedish countryside as a form of income. Luffare, or "wandering workers," went from farmstead to farmstead, transforming scrap metal into various vessels to be used around the home. Everything from metal hooks and baskets, to bowls, egg cups and candle holders could be made from simple wire and creativity.

With simple tools like pliers, wire cutters, dowels and wires of various gauges, students will learn the basic techniques of wire work. From there, students will practice classic luffarslöjd techniques to make several beautiful and useful objects such as hooks, candlesticks and bowls. The workshop will also share ideas for further exploration for wire art.

An additional $15 materials fee is payable to the instructor.

Registration recommended by May 17.
