CANCELLED Swedish Bonadsmålning in Egg Tempera

Saturday, May 16, 2020 - 10:00am to 5:00pm

This class meets on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day

Explore traditional Swedish painting techniques through this unique class. Swedish bonadsmålning flourished in southern Sweden during the 18th and 19th centuries, when it was used to create wall decorations for modest country homes. Working on cloth or paper with homemade egg temperas, painters illustrated allegorical stories that blended Biblical themes, Swedish history and contemporary rural life. With the guidance of folk art painter Pieper Fleck Bloomquist, students will craft their own egg yolk based paints and create a 8” x 10” folk art painting to take home. This class uses basic pattern with options for embellishment, and so is appropriate for all skill levels. Plenty of discussion and demonstration will explore traditional use of color and design. Ages 13 and up.

All necessary tools and materials will be provided, but some students may prefer for bring their own personal supplies, such as the following: brushes (suggested Princeton Lauren round #2, #4, and Dick Blick Scholastic Wonder White liner #0), water brush pans, extra absorbent paper towels, ruler, pencils, other sketching or painting tools you prefer.

An additional $20 materials fee is payable to the instructor.
