Chan Poling and Lucy Michell's "Jack and the Ghost" Performance & Book Celebration

Monday, November 11, 2019 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm

You’re invited to a hybrid reading and performance celebrating the release of Chan Poling and Lucy Michell's new illustrated book Jack & the Ghost, published this fall by University of Minnesota Press.

The evening will begin with a reception in the Turnblad Mansion; enjoy a drink and some appetizers, and pick up a pre-signed copy of the book.

Then, the revered stage actors Mark Benninghofen (Sunday) and Sally Wingert (Monday) will narrate the newly published tale as Chan and Lucy provide musical underscore and commentary. A Q&A with the authors will follow the performance.

About Jack & the Ghost

A gothic, lyrical evocation of a shipwreck, ghosts, and lost—and found—love in a North Shore town. In a tale weird and whimsical, as familiar as folklore and as strange as life itself, musical artists Chan Poling and Lucy Michell create a melancholy world, guiding us through a landscape of prose and pictures at once irreverent and dead serious. Though the book’s surreal seduction might call to mind the likes of Wes Anderson, Edward Gorey, or The Decemberists, it is, finally, Poling and Michell’s singular accomplishment, an enchanting imaginative leap into life’s haunted depths.

There is also a performance on Sunday, November 10, from 6-8 p.m.

Ticket + Jack & the Ghost book and bag: $35 ASI members / $40 non-members / $20 child. Ticket only: $20 ASI members / $25 non-members / $10 child
