Counting the Castle: Zigzag Watercolor Sketchbooks with Tara Sweeney, Intergenerational Edition

Friday, April 3, 2020 - 9:00am to 4:00pm

This class meets on Friday, April 3 & Saturday, April 4 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day

Ready for a visual scavenger hunt this spring? Students will hunt for details large and small and then document them in watercolor and ink in a pocket-sized zigzag sketchbook. Instructor Tara Sweeney will lead students through ASI’s featured exhibition, extra/ordinary, based on her collaborative picture book, A to Zåäö: Playing with History at the American Swedish Institute (University of MN Press, 2019), with lots of opportunities to explore the Turnblad Mansion. After two days of drawing and painting, students will take home a keepsake sketchbook and lots of inspiration for a lifetime of exploring new (and familiar) places through art! All levels of ability welcome.

This workshop is designed for intergenerational pairs or groups, while a similar workshop for adults will be offered in early summer. Youth ages 8-12 must register with an accompanying adult; teens welcome on their own.
