Swedish TV’s crime mysteries are among the best in the business and a watching and discussing them is great way to learn more about the culture and language.

Join ASI and language/culture instructor Gregg White over four weeks to view episodes from Crimes of Passion, a series of 90-minute films originally released in 2013 described as Mad Men meets The Killing. Based on the books by Swedish crime novelist Maria Lang (Dagmar Lang)., the films were co-produced by Svensk Filmindustri and Swedish commercial broadcaster TV4.

After viewing, discuss episodes in Swedish or English (per student language level) touching on plot, production, society and the significance of the early 1950s settings.

FIKA café is open until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and students who purchase food and beverages there, are welcome to bring it to the showings.

The class will likely cover the first four episodes in the series, pending time.
