Eggstravaganza - Solar Egg Opening Night

$10 ASI members / $17 non-members

Join ASI and visiting Swedish artists Mats Bigert and Lars Bergström for the opening of the new experiential exhibition, Reflect: Bigert & Bergström. Celebrate the arrival of their featured Solar Egg by Bigert & Bergström for Riksbyggen, a five-meter-tall golden egg sculpture that's also a functional sauna. Be one of the first to sign up for a session in the egg-shaped sauna and stay for a talk with the artists. Food and drinks will be available for puchase from FIKA.

Taking residence in ASI’s outdoor courtyard from March 6 to April 28, 2019, the Solar Egg sculpture is made of wood and covered in a stainless golden mirror surface. Its many facets reflect its surroundings and the sauna acts as a chamber for the exchange of ideas. In the centre of the egg is a wood-fired, heart-shaped sauna stove made of iron and stone, and the temperature reaches between 75° and 85°C (or 167° to 185° F)!

The Swedish artist duo of Bigert & Bergström, two of Sweden’s most notable international climate-focused artists, created the egg for the Swedish housing developer Riksbyggen to stand as a symbol of new beginnings in Kiruna. The sauna holds a key position in Nordic countries as a space for warmth and reflection.

Solar Egg Sauna Sessions are available March 6 – April 28 on Wednesdays evenings, and Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

About Solar Egg

Taking residence in ASI’s outdoor courtyard from March 6 to April 28, 2019, Solar Egg by Bigert & Bergström for Riksbyggen sculpture is made of wood and covered in a stainless golden mirror surface. Its many facets reflect its surroundings and the sauna acts as a chamber for the exchange of ideas. In the centre of the egg is a wood-fired, heart-shaped sauna stove made of iron and stone, and the temperature reaches between 75° and 85°C (or 167° to 185° F)!

Swedish art duo of Bigert & Bergström, two of Sweden’s most notable international climate-inspired artists, created the egg for the Swedish housing developer Riksbyggen to stand as a symbol of new beginnings in Kiruna. This town is currently undergoing a physical move to make way for an iron ore mine that drives its economy. In Kiruna, the landscape, mine, town, sky, sun and snow combine into a fragmented image that evokes association of the complexities spanned by the discussion about climate and sustainable community development.
