CraftBOWL Exclusive Exhibition Tour

Join Maja Heuer, museum director of The Glass Factory, one of Scandinavia’s most prominent and on-the-rise glass museums, for a comprehensive tour of the Bertil Vallien glassworks in CraftBOWL. Heuer is the curator of the one-of-a-kind Vallien Rites of Passage installation at ASI, with works that have been brought together for the first time.

The Glass Factory holds one of the largest collections of Bertil Vallien glassworks and Heuer has an intimate knowledge not only Vallien's works, but an in-depth understanding of the intricacies, challenges and rewards of creating art glass.

Artist Bertil Vallien uses glass to explore major life transitions such as the journeys from childhood to adulthood, singleness to marriage, and life to death. The ASI installation, Rites of Passage, presented in collaboration with The Glass Factory, demonstrates the personal and cultural environments that informed Vallien’s most memorable works and transformed Sweden’s glass industry.

”I make boats because I think the form is beautiful, it carries both mystique and symbols. It implies passage. That´s what life is – a voyage from start to finish.”

 - Bertil Vallien.

The Glass Factory, located in Boda, Sweden, has Sweden’s most comprehensive collection of art glass, which consists of about 30,000 objects from various glassworks by more than 40 artists who have worked with glass.
