First Look - CraftBOWL, Preview Party for ASI's New Exhibition!

Friday, January 19, 2018 - 6:30pm to 10:00pm

OPENING NIGHT PARTY

Get a first look at CraftBOWL, a new exhibition that launches ASI’s 2018 Year of The Handmade. CraftBOWL introduces audiences to the careers of three Swedish masters - Jögge Sundqvist, Ingegerd Råman and Bertil Vallien - and the global movements they have inspired.

  • Tap into the craft philosophies of Jögge Sundqvist as he presents his Rhythm & Slöjd performance where "wood, sweat and woodchips" mix with rock n' roll.
  • Stroll the galleries with Maja Heuer, Director of Sweden's celebrated Glass Factory, and curator of Bertil Vallien's Rites of Passage installation.
  • Listen to the cornfield-to-culture sounds of Minneapolis-based songster Chris Koza.
  • Try your hand at making a bowl with Northern Clay Center, join FOCI Center For Glass Art's representative Trish Gardiner to hear about the glass bowl process, and dive deep into the world of craft at the American Craft Council's pop-up library.
  • Still not enough? Pull up a chair and witness the woodchips fly with ASI's makers community as they turn fresh wood into intricately carved spoons throughout the night.
  • Sample beer from Indeed Brewing and try some java by Tiny Footprint Coffee.
  • Taste a variety of handcrafted culinary treats (lite bites and beverages) from award-winning FIKA Cafe (available for purchase).
