The Great Makers Exchange - A Nordic Handcraft Celebration

Sunday, August 6, 2017 - 10:00am to 5:00pm

Calling all makers—painters, crafters, potters, carvers, weavers and creators at all skill levels. ASI invites you to connect with fellow enthusiasts to enjoy hands-on learning under the guidance of skilled ASI resident instructors and respected guest artists. Two-hour mini-workshops and will be offered throughout the day. Artists and organizations will also lead on-site demonstrations. Crafters will make their wares available for sale at the Makers Market.


  • Two-hour mini craft workshops listed below ( $25 registration fee per workshop)
  • The Makers Market – engage with crafters demonstrating and selling their wares
  • The Young Makers Studio –  drop-in craft activities for youth and families
  • Featured Maker Talk: Practicing Creativity with Tia Salmela Keobounpheng at 1 p.m.
  • Folk Music performances by Tjärnblom and The Hunky Dory Scandinavian All-Stars 
  • Craft and Design Focused Micro-Tours of the Turnblad Mansion
    • 12:30 - Meet The Makers of 2600 Park Avenue: Intersecting Art, Craft and Design
    • 2:30 - Porcelain Tile Stoves
    • 3:30 - Woodcarvings
    • 4:30 - Textiles
  • Admission to ASI’s museum and summer exhibitions, featuring the exhibitions Still Life: Karin Broos


Registration is now open for mini-workshops. Please sign up in advance so we can plan for materials and space. Most workshops accommodate both youth and adults, please see workshop listings for details on age limits and additional material costs.

Enjoy the makers market, music, family craft, and other festival activities with the purchase of museum admission

Workshops are $25 each (includes ASI museum admission), for some sessions there is a day-of additional materials cost payable to the instructor.

Museum Admission:

  • $10 Adults
  • $7 ages 62+
  • $5 Students with ID and youth ages 5-12
  • Free for members and those ages 5 and under
$10 adult, $7 ages 62+, $5 ages 6-18 and students with id. FREE for ASI Members. No special passes/coupons accepted on festival days.
