Jul to the World: Family Day

Saturday, November 9, 2013 - 10:00am to 5:00pm

ASI opens the holiday season with an entire day of fun and creative family activities that are sure to set the stage for a season of good jul and new family traditions!

Be there for the kick off of this year’s Great Tomte Hunt at 10 a.m.! Kids will have fun searching throughout the Turnblad Mansion’s nooks and crannies to find the hidden Tomtes. Bring the kids to the Mansion’s third floor Family Gallery, where The Bakeshop, a new interactive exhibit, will inspire imaginative play and learning around the tastes of the season. Enjoy real pepparkakor in the Mansion's historic kitchen between noon and 4 p.m.

At 11 a.m., enjoy a free family concert by visiting Norwegian soprano Åshild Skiri Refsdal (co-sponsored by the Edvard Grieg Society), and discover the magic of paper cut snowflakes when you drop in to the studio arts classroom to make this holiday craft (slöjd) between noon and 4 p.m. You can also ride Gustaf, the world’s only mechanical Dala Horse (to our knowledge anyways), and meet his creators, Rod Chelberg (woodwork/mechanical) and Dianne Anderson (Dala painter), who will be on hand sharing stories of how Gustaf came to be from noon to 1 p.m.

Admission to family concert is free.

All other activities included with museum admission ($9 adults, $7 ages 62+, $5 ages 6–18, free for children under 6 and ASI members).
