Nordic Craft Workshop: Carve an Eating Spoon

Sunday, March 31, 2019 - 10:00am to 5:00pm

Join green woodcarver Amy Umbel for this day-long class to craft an eating spoon. Starting with a prepared blank, students will work through basic principles of spoon carving using hand tools including a sloyd knife, hook knife and gouge. Design, spoon blank preparation, safe and correct tool use, and efficient use of energy will all be covered. Students will also be introduced to basic axe work and hewing techniques for roughing out a spoon blank. Finishing and decoration will be discussed as time allows. This is an excellent class for beginning green woodcarvers or intermediate woodworkers interested in starting with green woodcarving techniques.

This workshop is co-presented with the Women’s Woodshop in South Minneapolis. See more of Amy’s classes on March 29 and 30 there

An additional $20 materials fee is payable to the instructor.
