Nordic Craft Workshop: Coopered Vessels

Friday, October 5, 2018 - 10:00am to Sunday, October 7, 2018 - 5:00pm

Wooden, watertight vessels were once essential equipment for everyday life in Scandinavia. In this rare and exciting course, join woodworking instructor Eric Edgin to create a staved and coopered vessel with your own hands!

As students split out pine staves and shape them with hand tools into a sturdy vessel bound by metal bands, they will explore traditional construction methods and discuss the historical context of cooperage. Students are guaranteed to go home with much more than a bucket!

While students do not need previous hand tool experience, they should be prepared to stand, lift and work with their hands for long periods of time over three days. Workshop open to ages 16 and up.

An additional materials fee of $95 is payable to the instructor.
