Nordic Craft Workshop: Craft a Coat Rail with Josh Torkelson

Saturday, September 28, 2019 - 10:00am to 5:00pm

Create a beautiful and functional peg rail by hand – perfect for holding coats, hats, bags or towels! This day-long class welcomes beginning carvers and woodworkers interested in exploring new hand tools and basic wood embellishment. Students will start with basic design and layout of their peg rail; they’ll use simple carving techniques to craft their pegs, and fix their pegs with wedged mortise and tenon joinery. The project will introduce the correct and safe use of several hand tools, including block planes, handsaws and carving knives. Students will finish their pine and birch peg rails with natural milk paint, oil or simple relief carving.

This class welcomes students ages 14 and up. Students should have some hand strength and dexterity – if you can open a new pickle jar, you can carve!
