Nordic Craft Workshop: Legacy Watercolor Landscapes

Thursday, March 28, 2019 - 9:00am to 4:00pm

This class will meet Thursday, March 28, through Saturday, March 30, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day

What landscape is nearest and dearest to your heart? This three-day workshop is an opportunity to express that treasured place for future generations by creating a watercolor landscape painting that will be a lasting family legacy. Instructor demos and guided exercises will introduce you to a three-layer, limited palette approach to watercolor from your photo reference of choice. Using the structure of light and shadow, and the illusion of depth to simplify shapes and values for figures and landscape elements, you’ll explore the hallmarks of watercolor: glowing color; wet-into-wet mingling; transparent layering; intentional lost and found edges; and lively brushwork. Discussions will be informed by inspiration from instructor Tara Sweeney, ASI collections, and the exhibition Imagine: Surreal Photography by Erik Johansson.
