Nordic Craft Workshop: From Tree to Table – Cutting Boards and Beyond

Saturday, March 23, 2019 - 10:00am to 5:00pm

Make a simple, functional and elegant cutting board, cheese board or tea tray – straight from the tree. In this class, students will learn how to split workable pieces of wood from locally-sourced, green (freshly cut) logs, such as birch or cherry. In the traditional Swedish slöjd style, students will explore traditional green woodworking tools, such as a shaving horse, drawknife and carving knife, to turn the wood into functional objects for the kitchen. Decorative techniques and finishing will be discussed as time allows.

Students will complete 1-2 small projects. No previous experience in woodworking is required, and experienced woodworkers new to working with green wood will have plenty to explore. Open to students ages 14 and up.

An additional $20 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the beginning of the class.
