Nordic Craft Workshop: Watercolor Pocket Journal

Friday, April 6, 2018 - 9:00am to 4:00pm

Watercolor Pocket Journal – Exploring the Castle

This two-day workshop is a wonderful opportunity for participants of all levels to learn the basics of combining watercolor and ink by practicing sketching techniques and writing.

Workshop meets from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. over two consecutive days:

  • Friday, April 6
  • Saturday, April 7

Create an accordion-fold, postcard-sized watercolor journal supported by instructor demonstrations and individual feedback. The indoor and outdoor spaces of ASI can provide inspiration for sketching and writing – so dress for the weather and be prepared to go outside if possible.

Instructor Tara Sweeney has been creating with watercolor and ink for nearly forty years. Close to Home: Sketching a Minnesota Year is her debut collection of illustrated creative nonfiction. She has been awarded a Minnesota State Arts Board artist initiative grant to co-illustrate A to Zåäö, a picture book exploring ASI’s historic collection.

Materials needed for the class can be purchased at Wet Paint Art Supplies store in St. Paul (suggested) or online. Please bring the following:

  • Pentalic Accordion Watercolor Dream Catcher Sketchbook, 4x6 inches
  • Staedtler Pigment Liner Pen, 0.3mm black (please bring this exact brand and model, as it is essential to the technique demonstrated)
