Richard Tellström: Lutfisk, herring and other fish traditions in Swedish food culture

Saturday, November 16, 2019 - 11:00am

Finding Food History with Richard Tellström

“One of the things, that we do every day, and which gives us the most joy is preparing and eating food with one another,” says Swedish food historian, writer and scholar Richard Tellström, who talks about food and meals as cultural or social acts, rather than from a nutritional perspective.

The charismatic and knowledgeable Tellström is a favorite and frequent American Swedish Institute guest. We welcome his return this November as part of ASI’s holiday activities to, among other things, offer a pre-Lutfisk Dinner orientation, looking into old and new versions of this “fishy” tradition.

Tellström is a professor of Food History at Stockholm University and a lecturer at Örebro University where he teaches at the School of Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Meal Science.

*You do not need to attend the Lutfisk Dinner to attend the lecture.
