Roundtable Conversation with Aar Maanta and Hoven Droven, Moderated by Ifrah Mansour: Traditional Music, Reimagined

Sunday, September 16, 2018 - 11:00am to 12:00pm

When traditional music is reimagined, what does it symbolize? Aar Maanta & the Urban Nomads (Somali pop qaraami) and Hoven Droven (Swedish folk rock) – two popular bands that take traditional music, reimagine it and use it to tell the stories of culture – come together with Ifrah Mansour (Somali multimedia artist, performer and educator) to talk about what their music symbolizes for them, their communities and the connection between Somalia and Sweden.

This FREE event will take place in Larson Hall, on the 2nd floor of the Nelson Cultural Center at ASI.

Presented in partnership with The Cedar Cultural Center as part of the 2018 Global Roots Festival, taking place September 15-19. The 2018 Global Roots Festival features more than 14 bands along with free workshops, film screenings, and art activities that illuminate the history of the West Bank neighborhood’s deep Scandinavian and East African roots. Expect great music, and take in something new with friends and family. For more information, visit https://www.thecedar.org/global-roots/
