SOLD OUT Nordic Craft Workshop: Beginning Nålbinding

Saturday, January 12, 2019 - 1:00pm to 5:00pm

This class meets on Saturday, Jan. 12 & Sunday, Jan. 13, from 1-5 p.m. each day

Learn the folk art tradition of nålbinding using a handcrafted wooden needle and a continuous strand of wool yarn. Often called “Viking knitting,” this looping technique predates both knitting and crocheting and was developed in multiple places around the world at least 3,000 years ago. Scandinavians long used wool yarn and nålbinding techniques to produce sturdy, warm garments such as socks, mittens and hats. In this class, you will continue in that Scandinavian tradition and learn basic nålbinding stitches to get started on a hat. Your instructor will provide practice yarn and a wooden needle to introduce a new hobby that will keep your hands busy for the rest of the winter!

This class is scheduled over two back-to-back days to reinforce learning a new type of handwork.

A materials fee of $15 is payable to the instructor at the beginning of the class to cover a nålbinding needle, practice yarn, and hand outs. Once registered for the class, students will also recieve guidelines about acquiring additional yarn for their final hat project.
