SOLD OUT Nordic Craft Workshop: Build a Ladder

Saturday, March 2, 2019 - 10:00am to Sunday, March 3, 2019 - 5:00pm

This class meets on Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. & Sunday, March 3, from 1-5 p.m.

Learn the basics of mortise and tenon joinery while building a small and sturdy ladder, perfect for holding blankets, quilts, magazines or just for reaching a little taller! This class will use traditional Scandinavian hand tools including shaving horses, drawknife and slöjd knives. The basic joinery used is fundamental to both furniture and traditional timber framing in Scandinavia, employed here to create ladders roughly five feet tall.

On day 1, students will choose a design, cutting wood to length and shaping with a shaving horse. On the second day, students will join the ladder using mortis and tenon joints, and then finish their project. Throughout the class there will be plenty of time for discussion, questions and sharing stories.

This class welcomes intergenerational pairs (youth ages 9 and up plus an adult) to work on one project together for the same tuition and materials fee.

An additional $35 materials fee is payable to the instructors at the beginning of the class.

Cost:
$100 ASI members / $125 non-members
