SOLD OUT Nordic Craft Workshop: Carving a Wooden Bowl by Hand with Amy Umbel

Saturday, July 13, 2019 - 10:00am to 5:00pm

This workshop meets on Saturday, July 13 & Sunday, July 14, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day

Drawing on old world designs and traditional green woodcarving techniques, students will carve a Scandinavian-inspired dough bowl using hand tools: the adze, axe and gouge.

You’ll chip and shave away to turn your bowl blank into a working centerpiece for your table. All the while, we’ll practice techniques for safe carving, hewing and efficient use of energy. Discussions will also cover wood sourcing, design principles, layout, and drying and finishing a wooden bowl. Students will have a chance to view historic examples from ASI’s collections and also receive printed resources to serve for future bowl making adventures. Once you’ve started carving bowls, you won’t want to stop!

An additional $50 materials fee is payable to the instructor.

Registration recommended by July 5.
