SOLD OUT Nordic Craft Workshop: Nordic Band Weaving - 4 week session begins

Tuesday, January 8, 2019 - 6:00pm to 9:00pm

This class runs over 4 weeks on Tuesday nights – January 8, 15, 22 & 29 – from 6-9 p.m.

For centuries, weavers throughout Scandinavia, the Baltics, and Sami regions of northern Europe have woven intricately patterned bands using just a few simple tools. These bands are used practically (wherever long, narrow, strong straps are needed) and decoratively (as garment edging, hairbands, apron belts and costume sashes). In this class, you will learn how to weave both plain and patterned bands using the traditional tools of a backstrap loom and a hand-held heddle. No prior weaving experience is required. You will learn the entire weaving process, starting with winding a warp, threading the heddle, weaving your band, and finishing it with a decorative fringe. You’ll start by weaving a simple, plain-weave band, and then learn the Nordic pick-up technique to weave bands with decorative patterns. Your materials fee includes a complete backstrap loom that you can take home and enough yarn to complete two bands.

A $25 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the beginning of the class.
