SOLD OUT Nordic Craft Workshop: Raw Hand Felted Fleece with Becky Utecht

Saturday, August 17, 2019 - 10:00am

This workshop meets over 2 days: Saturday, August 17, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. & Sunday, August 18, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Wooly sheepskins make a great (and very Nordic) addition to a bed, floor or couch, and in this class you can make your own (no “skin” involved)! Instructor Becky Utecht has developed a fascinating and utterly humane way of transforming a raw, or unwashed, sheep fleece into a soft and fluffy faux “sheepskin” using nothing more than hot water, a little soap and plenty of elbow grease.

The class will dive deeply into the differences of various sheep types and their uses. Students are encouraged to source a fleece themselves, or can purchase one from the instructor. The finished fleeces will combine sustainable fibers with age old felting techniques to create a modern, beautiful and warm accessory for any home.

Previous felting experience is helpful, as this is a physical, wet and messy felting project.

After registration, students will receive information about sourcing a fleece, or may opt to purchase one from the instructor ($30-$75 depending on size and breed). Part of the class will take place outside in the shade, and students must be prepared to stand for long periods.

An additional $40 materials fee is payable to the instructor.
