SOLD OUT Nordic Craft Workshop: Swedish Kurbits (Dalmålning) Painting with Pieper Fleck Bloomquist

Saturday, June 22, 2019 - 10:00am to 5:00pm

This workshop meets on Saturday, June 22 & Sunday, June 23, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Explore the art of kurbits in this weekend-long Swedish folk painting class. Dalmålning, also known as kurbits painting or dala painting, flourished in Sweden in the 18th and 19th centuries, and is used today to decorate Sweden’s iconic dala horses. Originally painted on cloth or paper canvasses, these paintings depicted everything from biblical stories to local history. In this class, students will focus on painting a kurbits flower in an urn, using simple acrylics on a 12”x16” canvas.

This class is appropriate for all painting skill levels as the embellishments can be as simple or detailed as the student desires. Discussions and demonstrations will explore mixing traditional paints, color and design, and more advanced embellishments –informed by historic examples and the instructor’s recent trip to Sweden to study folk painting. Students will head home with a unique piece of folk art and the ability to continue painting themselves! Workshop appropriate for ages 13 and up.

An additional $10 materials fee is payable to the instructor.

Students must bring their own materials. See below for required items.
