SOLD OUT Virtual Nordic Handcraft Workshop: DIY Beeswax Food Wrap with Bliss Benson

Wednesday, April 14, 2021 - 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Create two reusable and sustainable beeswax coated food wraps while learning about our favorite pollinators! Bee keeper and maker Bliss Benson will lead students through the process of coating cotton fabric with a thin layer of grated beeswax and using an iron to seal the wraps. Once cooled, the wraps can be used to replace plastic wrap or zip lock bags to wrap sandwiches, produce, bowls, and more. Naturally water resistant and simple to clean, beeswax coated food wraps can be reused many, many times before eventually being composted. Students will make two 13” x 13” wraps. Students need some hand strength to grate the beeswax.

This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.

Kits ($10) are included in the class fee. Each kit includes beeswax and fabric for two wraps, and extra fabric to protect your iron, along with a small gift! Students must also provide an iron and ironing board, a cheese grater, and an old dish towel.  Kits will be available for pick up at the American Swedish Institute April 8-11, or can be shipped for an additional $5 fee. Registration for kit based classes closes one week in advance on April 7.

This is a participatory class and spots are intentionally limited to allow interaction between students and the instructor. Please call 612-871-4907 to be added to a waitlist.
