SOLD OUT Virtual Nordic Handcraft Workshop: The Other Nordic Noir – Ecoprints in Grey with Lesley Darling

Thursday, June 24, 2021 - 5:00pm
This class takes place Thursdays June 24 and July 1 from 5-7 p.m.

Intrigued by those silky scarves covered with incredible impressions of leaves and flowers? Working with tannins and metals, students will learn to make their own fantastic eco-prints on silk fabrics in this two-part class. In the first meeting, students will go over different methods of ecoprinting, discuss plants to grow and forage for a variety of results, and learn how to prepare their kit materials for dyeing. After collecting leaves and other materials from their yard, students will use the provided silk scarves and mordants to start the eco-printing projects during the week, then return for a second session for further learning and sharing.  No previous experience is needed, but please note that this course does not discuss standard natural dye practices.  Some manual dexterity and strength is required, such as being able to tightly wrap cord or string.

This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.

Kits ($40 value) are included in the class fee. Each kit includes silk, equipment and mordants for two eco-printing projects. Students must also provide a dye container (options discussed in first class), cotton twine, plastic wrap and some natural materials (also discussed in first class). Kits will be available for pick up at the American Swedish Institute one week before class, June 17-20, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., or can be shipped for an additional $10 fee. Registration for this class closes on June 13 so ASI has time to prepare kits.

This class is sold out. Please call 612-871-4907 to be added to a waitlist.
