SOLD OUT Virtual Nordic Handcraft Workshop: Visible Mending with Maddy Bartsch

Wednesday, January 27, 2021 - 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Tackle that pile of clothing in need of mending while putting your personal mark on your garments. The movement toward visible mending uses the beauty of patches and stitching to give clothing new life while placing the mends front and center. Maddy will walk students through the basic concepts and techniques behind visible mending and also take time to address specific questions as students start working on their mending projects. Students may also be interested in our Visible Darning Workshop on February 17.

This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.

Students may order an optional kit for $10 or use the material list below to gather their own tools and materials. Each kit includes fabric patches hand dyed by Maddy, needles, fabric chalk, a needle threader and a small ruler. Students should also provide scissors, pins, and thread that matches or complements their mending projects. Additionally, an iron or thimble can be very helpful. Kits will be available for pick up at the American Swedish Institute the weekend before class, January 21-24, during open hours, or can be shipped for an additional $5 fee. Registration for kit-based classes closes one week in advance on January 20.

This is a participatory class and spots are intentionally limited to allow interaction between students and the instructor. Please call 612-871-4907 to be added to a waitlist.
