Spoons & Other Kitchenalia - A Special Three-Day Adult Slöjd Workshop

The special Spoons and Other Kitchenalia class meets for three full days, June 13-15.

Tuesday, June 13, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Wednesday, June 14, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Thursday, June 15,  9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

During this three-day class, students will dive into the art of green woodcarving and learn the secrets behind designing and carving and functional woodenware to use around the home and kitchen.  Instructor Alex Yerks will show students how to use handtools including the axe and knife to achieve the hand-crafted  approach.

Participants will also learn how using the wood fibers' grain alignment creates strong and lost-lasting items.

Beginners are welcome to register, although prior experience in woodcarving is recommended.

Instructor Alex Yerks

Alex was born and raised on a mountain in upstate New York and grew up wandering the surrounding woods. Brought up to rely on his natural surroundings, he instinctively works with the natural resources of the forest, utilizing the unique qualities of each tree in his projects. Alex has been a daily carver for seven years and teaches nationally and internationally at Spoonfest in England, Green Wood Guild in London, The Milan Spoon Gathering, various workshops in Wales, Holland and at his yurt in the Catskill Mountains. His main focus is carving Scandinavian drinking cups called kuksas. He is one of the few, if not the only one, in the world, involved in their production.

Materials Fee:

$30 materials fee is payable to the instructor, please bring any carving knives, axes you may have to class

Registrations Deadline

Registration is required by Tuesday, June 6, at least one week in advance, to ensure sufficient materials and space. Please call for availability after that date.
