Swede Hollow: Reading of the Stage Play

Saturday, October 6, 2018 - 10:00am

Ola Larsmo’s highly praised novel Swede Hollow was interpreted on stage at Dramaten, the Swedish Royal Dramatic Theatre, last November. The stage text has been translated into English and a group of local actors, led by Randy Reyes of Theatre Mu, will read a selection from the original production.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the event will kick off with opening remarks by Erik Anderson of the University of Minnesota Press. There will be a talkback to follow the readings led by Rachel Willson-Broyles and the acting set.

About Swede Hollow

Published by Albert Bonniers Förlag in September 2016, Swede Hollow is considered one of the most important Swedish novels published that year. Larsmo paints a detailed and relatable portrait of a Swedish family leaving everything behind in 1897 to chase the American dream. Like many immigrants past and present, their journey is everything but dreamlike.
