SwedGen from Sweden leads ASI's Swedish Genealogy Weekend!

We are excited to welcome back SwedGen to help us discover more of the Swedish migration story. This group of Swedish genealogists specializes in emigrant research and has a particular interest in the Swedes who emigrated to the U.S. SwedGen will cover both introductory and advanced topics, as well as one-on-one private sessions.

Saturday, May 12:

  • Introduction to Swedish Genealogy, 10 - 11 a.m.
  • Researching Beyond Household Records, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • Swedish Online Resources, 2 - 3 p.m.

Sunday, May 13:

  • Individual Research Sessions, 30-minute intervals throughout the day

SwedGen teaches Swedish Genealogy basics that will help you start finding your Swedish ancestry and decide what factors to consider. For example, once you know your relative’s church parish, what is the next step? They will also demonstrate a case study using Arkiv Digital.

Cost: $10 ASI members / $15 non-members

Interested in further exploration of your Swedish story? This hour-long lecture expands on the basics and will provide you with the means to research on platforms outside of the Household Records.

Cost: $10 ASI members / $15 non-members

Learn to dig a little deeper into Swedish records with DISBYT, a database created by DIS genealogy society members.  This lecture will also include tutorials on EmiWeb; covering migration to and from Scandinavia, as well as SVAR - The National Archives collection and databases.

Cost: $10 ASI members / $15 non-members

SwedGen will also conduct individual research help in 30 minute sessions. In these private sessions, registrants will meet one-on-one with a researcher who can provide help with research questions, provide ideas for additional resources, and give insight into how to get in touch with living relatives in Sweden. Sessions MUST be scheduled and paid for in advance.

* To participate in the individual sessions, you must have already begun your genealogy research. If you are looking for Swedish relatives, please bring everything you have found in U.S. records.

Cost: $15 ASI members / $20 non-members. To register, please call the ASI main desk at 612-871-4907 and ask for Liz Stopka.
