Upcycling Benefit for Dress for Success

Saturday, August 11, 2018 - 10:00am to Sunday, August 12, 2018 - 5:00pm

This month's upcycling event takes place on Saturday, August 11, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, August 12, from 12-5 p.m.

As part of the Gudrun Sjödén - A Colourful Universe exhibition, ASI has organized an “upcycling” initiative benefiting Dress for Success Twin Cities. Local designers, led by Maddy Bartsch of Three Rivers Fibershed, will be at ASI one weekend each month for the duration of the exhibition, to cut, sew and upcycle donated materials into new handbags.

Keep an eye out later this month when these handbags will be available to purchase in the Museum Store, with a portion of the proceeds going to Dress for Success!

More info:

  • Museum visitors are encouraged to donate unwanted clothes or fabric that will then be upcycled into handbags. The recycling bin (or återbruk in Swedish) is set up in the link between the Nelson Cultural Center and the Turnblad Mansion.
  • “Upcycling” is a creative re-use of discarded materials.
  • Dress for Success is a local organization that “empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.”
  • The upcycling events will take place during museum hours (10-5 on selected Saturdays and 12-5 on selected Sundays).
  • Other upcycling event dates: September 29th and 30th, October 20th and 21st
