Virtual Nordic Handcraft Demo: Printmaking Reimagined with Amy Sands

Saturday, June 5, 2021 - 11:00am to 12:00pm

Join Minneapolis-based artist Amy Sands, whose work spans the divide between traditional and digital printmaking, for this Nordic Handcraft program. Through a Minnesota State Arts Board grant, Amy has used ASI’s bobbin lace collection as inspiration for her latest body of work, on display at ASI through July 11 in her Lace Reimagined exhibit.

In this program, Amy will demonstrate some of the printing processes she uses, including how printed paper cuts, laser-engraved acrylics and public art manifest themselves in her work. Amy will also discuss what it was like to work with the ASI textile collections and why she finds craft and women’s work to be such rich themes to explore in her art.

This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.

Minnesota artist activities are made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund, and a grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation Minnesota.
