Virtual Nordic Handcraft Demo: Swedish Folk Painting Figures and Clothing with Pieper Fleck Bloomquist

Saturday, August 21, 2021 - 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Painting people is a challenging part of dalmålning and bonadsmålning (Swedish folk painting), yet without people it’s difficult to tell a good story! In this demonstration-style class, Pieper will give you tips to make this a much less challenging task than it seems. Learn how to make and use templates for your paintings and how to get the faces “just right.” The demo will cover inspiration for clothing and decision-making for posture. You will take away tricks to try at home and skills on how to study and practice. Pieper will be using acrylics, but the techniques can be used for any paint you use at home. A digital hand out will be shared in advance, so plan to set up and paint along with Pieper from home or watch and then use the class recording to practice later. This class is open to all levels but is especially suited to students with a little painting experience looking to expand their techniques.

This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.

Pattern handouts ($10 value) are included in the class fee and will be emailed to students the week before class to print off at home. Students may choose to watch the demo and work later using the pattern handout and class recording, or may gather their own supplies and paint along during class. Please see the materials lists below.
